Barranco Camp to Karanga Valley

From Barranco Camp we climb up through the edge of the Great Barranco Wall.  Rough Stuff….  The majority of the day walking will fluctuate around the elevation of 4250m (14,000 ft).  Breathing is noticeably harder, and the outline for the day reads easy but I can assure you it’s not.

Hike time 3.5 hrs  Elevation Change: +100m (328 feet)  Estimated Distance 4km (2.5 miles)  Camp Elevation 4000m (13,100 ft)

  1. Now you are making me nervous! The wall climb picture really gave me perspective on just what all of you are up against. You are going to do this! Glad you had a fun birthday (and who can say they celebrated in Africa on a volcano in a tent!) and be strong. Aunt Pam is making you stuffed peppers and masher taters when you get home.

  2. I’ve only had a small taste (compared to you) of altitude; a ski trip to Portillo, Chile where the lodge was a little over 10,000 ft, and a few of the summits we were skiing from were a bit higher. Just shlepping ski equipment and climbing a few flights of stairs was real work. I can imagine your fatigue walking a couple of miles and climbing 100M at 14,000!

    1. Hey Bob! It was rough. Especially the last 3k feet in the dark of night. Freezing to the bone and sore from 7 days of climbing, it’s wasn’t easy but it’s funny how your mind can block all that out when the sun peaks up and you see it. Right there. A few hundred upwards away. Ahhhhh amazing.

  3. Proud of you but I would guess winning the longest drive was by far your proudest moment. This is probably a close second….

    1. Hahaha Tommy oh how I have missed your humor. I did get a certificate for climbing. Maybe I’ll put it behind my longest drive trophy. Lol see you soon buddy!
